On a recent trip to Huntsville, Alabama I had the opportunity to visit Burritt On The Mountain.
I honestly did not know what to expect when I drove up the winding road to the venue. But when I got to the top, I was blown away by the magnificent beauty. On the day that I took my tour, it was closed to the public so I had the place to myself to walk around and enjoy the grounds.
Just to give you a little bit of history – Burritt on the Mountain is located in the heart of Huntsville at the top of Round Top Mountain. It is situated on 167 acres overlooking the city of Huntsville. Guests at Burritt on the Mountain can tour and learn about ecology, the life of farmers in the 1800s and tour the Burritt Mansion which was home to the late Dr. William Henry Burritt. Because Dr. Burritt didn’t have any heirs, he left the mansion and property to the City of Huntsville after his death, making it the city’s first museum.
As for having your wedding and reception there --- there are several beautiful options to choose from and I’ll take you through each one that I had an opportunity to see.
The Event and Wedding Spaces
The View is in one word – BREATHTAKING! The day that I was there, it was slightly overcast, therefore I couldn’t see very far across the landscape but it was still beautiful nonetheless. This is a wonderful space for a scenic wedding ceremony or cocktail hour.
If you want an intimate indoor wedding ceremony, the Chapel is a perfect space. It was the original sanctuary of the Madison First Baptist Church, established in 1884. It has traditional wooden pews and it is a blank slate for any type of vision you have for floral and décor design.
The next outdoor area is the Gazebo. This is an ideal space for an outdoor wedding ceremony. There are a series of steps leading to the Gazebo that make a natural aisle and entrance for the wedding party and for guests to be seated on each side.
When you walk up to the Baron Bluff you are immediately taken in by the spacious veranda that wraps around the building. It a great space for a cocktail hour or for guests to enjoy outdoor seating during the reception. As you make your way inside, you’ll notice the stained glass that adorns the large wooden doors. There are also large floor to ceiling windows that allows for lots of natural light to filter into the main hall . Inside the reception hall are high ceilings, wooden floors and a neutral color palette that makes it great for any style of floral and décor design.
